Happy Birthday, Juliet!
What a wonderful day we had celebrating Juliet's birthday and Johnny Appleseed Day! We sang Happy Birthday to Juliet and enjoyed the special snack she brought in to celebrate - thank you Juliet! The children also had a chance to try yellow, green and red apples and vote for their favorite. The green apple (Granny Smith) won as our favorite! We read a story about Johnny Appleseed and made Johnny Appleseed hats. I hope you all enjoy the weekend. It's hard to believe next week will be October already!

Happy fall! Today we talked about the seasons changing and what happens in fall. We read a book about the leaves changing and falling off the trees. The children crumbled pieces of different colored tissue paper and glued them onto trees to represent the colored leaves we find in fall. They all enjoyed crumbling and gluing the tissue paper! Be sure to take a look at the trees hanging up when you drop your child off in the morning.

The children had a wonderful time celebrating Curious George Day! We read two Curious George books that Gia and Julian brought in to share. Thank you, Gia and Julian! We also made a Curious George craft (be sure to check them out at drop off on Thursday!) and enjoyed bananas and crackers for snack.
We also continued talking about the Kindness Project and being "bucket fillers". A few of the children were very excited and proud to tell me they added stickers to their buckets over the weekend!
Since our playground was closed today as the new ground covering is being installed, we took a nature walk and collected some acorns and leaves that have already started to change color! We will look at them more closely and talk about them on Thursday.

Happy Birthday, Mrs. DePasquale!
What a fun day we had today! The children had a chance to play with new table toys that will help them develop their fine motor skills. During circle time, we read a book called "Fill a Bucket", which is based on the book "Have You Filled a Bucket Today?" by Carol McCloud. The children were very eager to start filling the bucket and were coming up with ideas on how they can help fill someone's bucket. We already have 20 cubes in our bucket! A letter went home today explaining the idea of being a "bucket filler" as well as a paper bucket for the children to use at home. We will continue to talk about how to be bucket fillers next week. We also read "Curious George's First Day of School" in preparation for Curious George Day on Tuesday. Our centers today focused on sorting items into categories and encouraged the children to work together to make sure all items were sorted into the correct categories. We also were able to enjoy some play time on the playground!
We are going to be setting up a Family Tree in the classroom. We are asking that each child bring in a picture of their family to add to the tree. We will keep them on display all year and send them home with the children in June. The children will be able to take their picture down to hold if they are feeling sad and missing home. Please send the picture in by Thursday, September 19th.
A FEW REMINDERS:

The children had another great day at school! During circle time, we counted the days on the calendar, talked about the weather and reviewed the alphabet, numbers 1-10 and colors. We also read The Kissing Hand and did a craft based on the book. The children enjoyed stamping their thumbs to make a heart and they all had the opportunity to choose their favorite color paper to trace their hand on. We played in centers and then had a chance to get some fresh air and play outside on the playground. It is so wonderful to see how nicely the children are playing together!
In the folders today were SaveAround/Kidstuff coupon books and Scholastic Book Orders. Both of these are optional. If you don't want to purchase the coupon book, please send it back to school. Both the books if you aren't purchasing it and the order forms are due next Thursday, September 19th. Scholastic Book Order forms are also due on September 19th. You also have the option of using the classroom code on the back of the order form and ordering books online, which has a larger selection to choose from. Please let me know if you have any questions on how to order books online.
LOOKING AHEAD...
Tuesday, September 17th is Curious George Day. The children may wear yellow and bring in their favorite Curious George book. We will also have bananas for snack that day and do a special Curious George project.
Thursday, September 26th is Johnny Appleseed Day. We will read a story about Johnny Appleseed and try different colored apples at snack and vote for our favorite. There will also be a fun apple craft that day.
You may have noticed I added a new section to the class page, the Monthly Calendar. I will be updating this every month with all special events, days off, etc for each month. Please be sure to check that page as I will update it often. Looking forward to seeing everyone on Thursday. God Bless!
Great First Day!
The children all had a wonderful first day of school! They were all very happy and enjoyed exploring the classroom as well as the playground. They enjoyed circle time and talking about the weather. We started learning how to pray by making the sign of the cross. Please practice this with them at home. We will continue to work on it at school and then will learn our first prayer (Hail Mary).
On Thursday, purple student information forms were sent home. Please make any changes to the forms and return to school on Tuesday, September 10th. Also, just a reminder that if your child brings home clothes that needed to be changed, please be sure to send in a replacement on the next school day. Thank you very much. Looking forward to seeing everyone on Tuesday!
