Catholic Schools Week begins on Sunday, January 29th. Please be sure to check the family envelope for more details on all of the fun things going on this week.
Two service projects are going on this week. Please help us to help others.
*Baby Shower-We will be collecting new baby clothes, socks, diapers, wipes, etc. to support local families in need through Life Choices.
*Coin Toss-The money collected during the coin toss will go to The Clara Barton assisted living facility.

*Tuesday, January 31st is our family visit and lunch.
*Thursday, February 2nd is a free dress-down day for all students.
*Friday, February 3rd is a 9:00 Mass and a noon dismissal.
*Saturday, February 4th is a retreat day for those receiving the sacraments. Students with last names from A-K will attend this retreat and those with last names beginning with L - Z will have their retreat on February 11th. Please refer to the details that Mrs. Schurko's sent to you. If you have any questions, please reach out to her.
*The Tricky Tray donation contest between classes is going on! Make your Tricky Tray donation by February 24th and your donation will be recorded for 2B. The class with the highest percentage of donations will win a free dress-down day! I know 2B would love that! We are counting on you!
This week-
Relgion-We will continue with our Theology of the Body program.
Math-This week we will begin chapter 7. We will recognize the place value of numbers to 900, use numerals and number names to read and write numbers to 1,000, identify the place value of digits in numbers to 999, and write three-digit numbers in expanded form. Please continue to review addition and subtraction with and without regrouping.
Science-This week we will become robot engineers as we work on a PBL project. We will decide what our robots will do, create a model of our robot, and then design an advertisement that shows people how and where they can buy the product. I can't wait to see what creative ideas 2B comes up with!
LA-This week we will identify the features of informational text as we read Who are Government's Leaders? We will also recognize the suffixes ful and less, use them to decode words, and explain their meanings. Our spelling words this week are homophones and in grammar, we will identify verbs in the present, past, and future tenses. There will be no reading or spelling test this week.

This week-
Religion- This week we will begin our Theology of the Body program where we will learn about the gift of self.
Math-This week we will add and subtract lengths, solve problems in more than one way, represent whole numbers on a number line diagram, and add and subtract on a number line diagram.
LA-This week will finish up with the story Wilma Rudolph: Against All Odds. Our reading and spelling test will be on Thursday.
SS-We will learn about Harriet Tubman, The Underground Railroad, and how President Lincoln was against the spread of slavery.

I hope everyone is enjoying the long weekend! 2B did a wonderful job with their Google writing assignment this week. The children enjoyed sharing their work. We continue to learn and practice new letters and words in cursive. I am so proud of how well 2B is doing!

*Tuesday, January 17th, is a dress-down day. The cost is $1.00 and the theme is favorite team shirt or jersey. Please be sure the money is in an envelope with your child's name and grade on it.
*The second marking period ends, this Friday, January 20th.

This week:
Religion: We will continue to learn how the Sacrament of Penance is celebrated. We will learn that the celebration always includes contrition, confession, penance, and absolution. We will also learn how to examine our conscience. Please help your child to examine his/her conscience each evening in preparation for our special day. We will have a test on Friday, January 20th.
Math: We will learn how to measure length using different units, measure to find how much longer one object is than another, and use addition and subtraction to solve word problems using lengths.
Social Studies: This week we will learn why people began to move west after the war and how difficult it was for them. We will also learn how many Native Americans were forced off their land to make room for pioneers.
LA: This week we will focus on identifying and using text features such as headings, a fact box, pictures, and captions to locate information. We will apply the text feature skill to our story called Wilma Rudolph: Against All Odds. We will also identify the meanings of words with the prefix dis and begin to learn about action verbs. Our spelling words will have the long I pattern. We will get new spelling words and power words on Tuesday. Our spelling and reading test will not be until next week.
