We have two service projects during Catholic Schools Week. One is our coin toss which wil benefit Catholic Social Services in Metuchen. Children can bring in pennies, nickels, dimes, quarters and bills to toss into a bucket to help those in need. Your generosity is deeply appreciated. We are also having a baby shower which again will benfit families in the Metuchen Diocese. Please be as generous as your means allow. (See our Family Envelope for more details)
We will have a noon dismissal on Friday, February 5th.
Looking ahead, we will celebrate Valentine's Day in school on February 11th. This school year has been very different and so we would like to have 2A and 2B exchange valentines! There are 33 children between both classes. So we are asking that each child bring in a valentine for students in 2A and students in 2B. More information will be posted next week.

Just a reminder that Catholic Schools Week begins on Sunday, January 31st. Please see the Family Envelope for details. As I mentioned last week, during Catholics Schools Week we will be learning about the rainforest and completing Project Based Learning activities.
In science, 2B has been learning about animals and their adaptations. Today in class the students used a variety of materials to create their own animals with adaptations that help them survive in their environment. The children had a lot of fun and were definitely creative!
As of right now, there is no definite date for the second grade to receive the Sacrament of Reconciliation. Once I receive any information from Mrs. Schurko, our Religious Education coordinator, I will pass that on to you. In the meantime, we are learning about the sacrament during Religion class. This week the children will learn how to examine their conscience. I would be grateful if each evening before your child goes to bed you would help him to examine his conscience. Your child should think about 1 thing he/she did that day that gave witness to being a disciple of Jesus and give thanks and 1 thing that was not a good choice and ask for forgiveness.
This week:
Religion: This week we will learn that Jesus shares His forgiveness and peace with us in the Sacrament of Reconciliation and we will learn how to examine our conscience. We will have a chapter test on Friday.
Math: We will learn how to subtract 3 digit numbers with and without regrouping, complete number patterns by counting back by 1's , 10's, and 100's and solve word problems.
