Thank you to Ryan for being our Student of the Week. Did you know he wants to be a Police Officer when he grows up and also plays soccer. Rosemary took Tilly the turtle home this past weekend. Did you know she took her to a Baptism and first birthday party. How special!
This week we continued to learn the Our Father. Please say the prayers we say at school at home with your child. They truly do love to pray and do it so well. We talked about God hearing our prayers no matter where we go. We talked about how God is always with us . We also learned how to pray to Jesus and thank him for our many blessings.
We reviewed the vowel Ii on Monday and started the letter Ff. The children are practicing their letters and numbers daily on their white boards. We read Fifi and Her Flute which had many Ff words throughout the whole book. We named them all and repeated the sound each one made. We explored pictures on our Alphabet board that began with the letter Ff. We started an Alphabet poem board for each letter we learn. We got into small groups to learn the letter Ff. We watched videos with the letter Ff and sang songs. We review the letters and sounds of Ll, Tt, Ii and Ff everyday along with the numbers we learned and numbers to 10. We say the alphabet and sounds of the letters each day at circle time as well. We review colors and shapes too. I will begin testing the children on the concepts we have learned in school next week for the Progress reports that will go out in November.
We learned about the number 4 and the shape of the oval. We counted groups of 4 and made rainbow 4's along with using our white boards to make number 4. We read a story Olive Oval and sang her song. We faced a partner and made oval faces to each other. On Tuesday we broke into Math groups where we dotted and traced number 4's, we made number 4's out of short pieces of straw and we practiced on our white boards.
This week we had Sister Josephine Galasso come in to speak with us for occupations. She is a Religious teacher of St. Lucy Filippini Community. St. Lucy Filippini was the Community Foundress of this order of Sisters. Their Motherhouse is located in Morristown, NJ. Sister Jo is one of our Kindergarten teachers. She came in and taught the children about Sister Lucy and also taught them a cute song about God. The children were very interested in her. Thank you Sister Jo for taking the time to come in to speak with our class. At Thanksgiving we will make and send cards to their Motherhouse in Morristown.
On Wednesday we met our 5th grade buddies. Mrs. A (5th grade teacher) read us a story about the Little Blue Truck and we each sat with our new buddy. We will be getting together with them from time to time. We made Halloween pictures for them and they gave us pictures as well. If you are taking your child after the Halloween parade, please write me a note or an email. We will be napping after the parade. Just as a reminder please make sure your child can use the bathroom by themselves with the costume you choose. Please no witches, devils etc.
A number of children want a stuffy to sleep with at nap time, during this time of year there are a lot of runny noses, so we do not share our classroom stuffed animals. If your child would like a stuffy they have to bring one from home on Monday and it stays in the classroom until Friday.
The letter for Show n' tell next week will be something that begins with the letter Hh or something to do with Halloween. Please make sure it fits in their backpacks. Please refer to the letter I sent out this week about Show n' tell.
