Thanksgiving! All month long we have been working on various Thanksgiving related works. We weaved paper and read several stories about Native Americans. Our morning group work, included painting the Mayflower and coloring pictures of Squanto and the pilgrim feast. We read several stories about the first Thanksgiving, gratitude and giving (we all have something to offer). The children learned two Thanksgiving songs that I really hope they share with you, a silly song called "I'm Glad I'm Not a Turkey" and another called "The Pilgrims Came to America a Long Long Time Ago" which includes sign language gestures for America, boat, friends, planting and growing. Thank you all for sending in your family's hand cut outs. Everyone made such unique turkeys!
I wish you all a blessed and relaxing Thanksgiving!
Our shape study continues with new work on the shelves, constructive triangles. The children put the triangles together to make new shapes like a square or rectangle. The red rods continue to be a popular choice but are about to be replaced with the number rods! Lots of interest in our language area with writing work on the chalkboard and tracing with metal insets. Sound introductions continue with F, R and K. A sound introduction is given with an individual student. The letter is named and its sound is repeated while tracing a sandpaper letter, we then look at some objects that start with that particular sound like a small firetruck, frog, fur and fish. Once a sound introduction is complete, the children can peel stickers and place on the letter or make a booklet.
Happy birthday Danika! Danika held our classroom globe and walked four times around the "sun." She also picked out our story for circle time, If You Give a Dog a Donut.
We celebrated Agustina's birthday! She has completed four trips around the sun. She held our classroom globe and circled the months of the year four times while we sang. Happy birthday!
