Guided reading is used in the classroom in small-group instruction and for independent reading. Your child is in the process of being assessed and assigned a reading group based on word-knowledge, comprehension, and fluency. Reading groups are used to challenge each student beyond just reading the words; they provide content knowledge. There are many reasons your child is benefitting from these short picture books:
1. They are learning to stay together with a group of readers.
2. They are following directions.
3. They are using picture clues and beginning sounds to determine
unfamiliar words.
4. They are gaining confidence.
5. They are reading the book and discussing critical thinking questions
about the story.
6. They are completing activities that relate with the book in literacy
centers and at home.
7. They are making a personal connection and a connection to other books.
Please be sure to read the books with your child when they come home and
return them to school the next day.
