NO HW for HSA meeting tonight!
Hi everyone!
We made it through our MAP testing last week and I am very proud of how hard they worked on it! Last week, we started working on our PBL that answers our essential question-what do plants need to grow? We have so many exciting things to show you at our PBL/STEM Fair on Wednesday, May 18th at 7:00 p.m. I hope to see many of you there!
Please do not forget about our Tricky Tray this Friday! Our parents have been working hard to bring this exciting event to you. Please consider donating your time to the event or providing a monetary donation. Anything that you can share would be greatly appreciated! Good luck to all and I look forward to seeing you there!
Have a great week! This is what our week looks like:
Language Arts: Our essential question is how can thinkin in new ways help to solve problems? This is what we have been working on with our STEM lessons because we need to try different ways to solve problems.
We will continue to review our HF words: begin, brother, front, picture, room, someone, sometimes and young.
We will continue to work with our Power Words: dancing, designed, straight, feed, float, floor, model, real, training, whatever and whole.
We will NOT have a spelling test this Friday.
Our focus skill will be on retelling stories in our words and being able to describe the setting of the stories we read. These are two skills that you can practice at home when reading. The setting tells where and when and retelling a story uses the transition words, first, next, then, and last.
We will also work on adverbs and in writing we will learn how to write a biographical essay!
Math: This week we are working with different types of graphs. We will conduct surveys in the classroom and then use the data to create bar graphs and pictographs. From the information that they collect, they will then be able to find the mean, the median and the mode. Can you believe our first graders are doing such an advanced skill?
Religion: As we honor Mary throughout the month of May, we will also learn that Jesus taught us to love and serve others. When we pray, we show God that we love him and we are called to love our families and others. We need to look for those who need us and to be a kind friend to all!
Social Studies: This week we will focus on the laws that we follow and that our government helps to make sure that we follow laws that will keep us safe. We will also revisit our American symbols that show our freedom. In keeping with our Math objectives we will also learn about the importance of voting and what it means to be a good citizen.
