FEBRUARY SKILLS/SPORT:
This month we will be learning skills needed to play lacrosse! Lacrosse is a fun, fast sport that not many of our students play. In lieu of a lacrosse ball, we will use plastic balls for the skills, and a tennis ball when we begin the games next month. Right now, our focus is on scooping, cradling, passing, catching, and throwing. If you have a lacrosse stick at home, have your child practice outside if the weather is nice!
FEBRUARY MONTHLY CHALLENGE:
TOE REACHES AND WINDSCREEN WIPERS:
It's best to do both of these exercises on a rug or mat. For toe reaches, your child is lying on his/her back, arms overhead touching the floor. Keeping legs straight, the goal is to touch his/her toes, without the knees bending, for 3 seconds. Students in K-2 do 5 of them; grades 3-8 do 10 toe reaches.
Windscreen wipers are good for the abs. Your child is lying on a rug or mat, head down, arms at the sides. Raising the legs in the air, the goal is to swing the legs to the left, as low as possible to the floor, without touching the floor. Hold for 3 seconds, then legs go back to the center, before lowing to the right for 3 seconds, and back to the center. Grades K-2 do 5; grades 6-8 do 10. Try them out for yourself! It's harder than it looks!
