Welcome back, and we hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving break!
This week, we did a phonics review of all our letter sounds. We learned a new phonics song, and identified first letter sounds with a matching game on our SmartBoard. We also played Letter Freeze Dance, and found different objects in our own classroom to work on our letter sounds. We created our own name tree, we built a tree with all the letters in our first name.
We began learning about patterns this week as well. We used our legos to complete color patterns, and read a book about color patterns. We also worked on our counting skills when we counted different Christmas pictures and dotted the correct number. We counted with our ten frames as well.
Pre-K read about different Holiday traditions from around the world, and visited different countries with our Go Noodle Moose. We also began sharing our own Christmas traditions, and shared the photos that were brought in. We created family ornaments and hung them on our tree. We made our own trees with the letters of our name and stacked them to spell our names.
We had our Pre-K Tree Lighting! We sang carols around our tree, and then counted down to light it. We decorated it with ornaments and explored our manager. After that we iced and decorated sugar cookies and had hot cocoa.
We learned our new prayer, “Our Father.” We colored it and shared it with our families to practice. We also learned about Saint Nicholas. We put out our shoes on Friday to see if Saint Nicholas would leave us a treat and he did! We created our own Santa face using cotton balls and a plate. We worked on sounding out words with our emergent reader we colored about Saint Nicholas, and shared it with our families.
For STEAM, we explored all about arctic animals. We had our new arctic animal center with different animals and pretend snow. We created a polar bear snow globe, and learned how polar bear’s skin is black in color. We also used different artic animal cookies cutters using our white “snowy” playdough.
Pete the Polar Bear visited us all the way from the North Pole. He will be watching and learning with us the whole month of December. We loved finding him every morning!
