Dear Parents, Guardians and Students,
Please review the following important information in regards to Art grades. The Art room always has a set of assessment criteria which determines the students’ grades for each marking period.
Each quarter’s grade for all students in grades 1 through 8 is comprised of:
**Two-three skills assessments (the actual Art projects which are aligned to New Jersey’s Common Core State Standards for Visual Arts) AND Two participation assignments (mid-quarter and end-of-quarter). Please refer to the attached rubrics for grade-specific assessment criteria; click on the attached link, “Art Rubric”.
Kindergarten students will be assessed for skills and participation at mid-quarter and end-of-quarter. Their skill assessments are not wholly determined by the end result; please refer to the detailed description assigned to each project on PowerSchool.**
All of the assessments are weighted equally.
All assessments are designed to be completed within the allotted Art class time. All students' rate of progress is different, therefore, at times more classes are allowed for completion of projects. The majority of Art projects take several weeks for the students to complete. Students may need to complete their projects at home in the event of absence or other missed class time. When an assignment is sent home for completion, parents will receive notification via email. At these times, the assignment is homework and expected to be finished and returned in order to be graded. If the assignment is returned incomplete, it will not receive full credit.
