Week of February 5, 2023
We had a wonderful Catholic Schools Week! It was so great to see so many of you at the open house and the parents visit on Tuesday! The children enjoyed all the activities throughout the week celebrating SFCS! This week is all about MAP Testing. Third grade will be taking MAP tests Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday. Please be sure your child gets a good night's sleep and has a good breakfast before coming to school. Also, please remind your child this is not a timed test and they should take their time and read each question carefully.
Reminders/Looking Ahead...
* Valentine's Day is next Tuesday, February 14th. Please keep an eye out for a letter coming home this week about our Valentine's Day celebration.
* No School Monday, February 20th in honor of President's Day.
* This 3rd and 4th grade Patriotic Show is Tuesday, February 28th at 7pm. Stay tuned for more details.
This Week in 3B...
Religion - We willl continue with our Theology of the Body program discussing ways we are a gift and how we can be a gift to others.
LA - We will finish up Week 1 on Monday. Our spelling and reading tests will be on Tuesday. The reading test will cover our story, "The is Your Life Cycle", the big idea/critical vocab words, and action and being verbs. We will begin Module 6, Week 2 on Wednesday. Week 2 contains two interesting stories about animals and their fascinating behaviors. We will learn about different animal noses in "The Nose Awards" and then all about the survival strategies of the octopus in "Octopus Escapes Again!". Students will receive the new spelling and vocab words on Wednesday. Our grammar skill this week will be using verbs in past, present, and future tenses.
Math - We will continue our chapter on fractions. This week we will focus on finding fractions on a number line, naming fractions of a whole, and using a fraction to find the whole. Our test on Chapter 9 will be next week.
Science - The children have been really enjoying learning about weather. We will continue talking about weather this week. We will spend some time this week learning about different types of severe weather and how we can stay safe in severe weather.

Week of January 29, 2023
Catholic Schools Week is here! It is certainly going to be a fun-filled week.
Here's a quick overview of the week's activities.
In between these exciting events, we will be doing some schoolwork too!
Religion - We will continue our Theology of the Body curriculum, which the children have really been enjoying. This week we will talk about how we are created with a soul and a body, and both of these things are very good! We will talk a little more about Original Sin and the Garden of Eden.
LA - Volume 1 readers came home on Friday- these can stay home. We will begin Module 6 on Monday. Our first story, "This Is Your Life Cycle" is always a hit, as we read about Dahlia the Dragonfly going through her life cycle. In grammar, we will begin to talk about verbs.
Math - We are starting my favorite unit in math, fractions! We will learn about naming fractions of a shape and fractions of a group this week. We will also look at locating unit fractions and fractions of a whole on a number line.
Science - This week, we will begin our chapter on weather!
*Looking ahead, the 3rd and 4th grade Patriotic Play will be on Tuesday, February 28 at 7:00 PM. Stay tuned for more details!

This Week in 3B...
Religion - This week, we will wrap up Chapter 15. We will review Chapter 15, on the sacraments, on Monday and our Chapter 15 test will be Tuesday. We will then begin our Theology of the Body curriculum.
LA - We will go back to Module 5, Week 1 this week. We will be working through Week 1 and Week 2 of Module 5 together. Both of these weeks feature stories about young athletes who learn what it means to work as a team! Students will receive spelling and Critical Vocab words in class on Monday. Stay tuned for more information about upcoming spelling and reading tests!
Math - This week, we are wrapping up our unit on division! We will take Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday to review, and then on Thursday we will have a test on division. This test will include all division facts, but will focus more on dividing by 6, 7, 8, and 9.
Science - We will wrap up our study of ecosystems this week by talking about water ecosystems!

Week of January 16, 2023
I hope everyone is enjoying the long weekend! We had a busy week in 3B. Kindergarten and 6th grade did a great job leading us in the school Mass on Monday. The children are excited about a persuasive writing project where they are "applying" for a job as a snowman designer that we started the end of last week!
Reminders/Looking Ahead...
* There is no school Monday, January 16th in honor of Martin Luther King, Jr. Day
* Tuesday, January 17th is a $1 dress down day. The theme is favorite sports team. Students may wear a jersey or the colors of their favorite team. Please be sure to send the $1 in an envelope with your child's name on it. Thank you.
* There is a Helping Hands meeting this Thursday, January 19th.
* The 2nd marking period ends this Friday, January 20th.
* Catholic Schools Week begins Sunday, January 29th. Stay tuned for more details about this exciting week!
* Thank you to all who have sent in tissues. It is greatly appreciated!
This week in 3B...
Religion - We will begin Chapter 15 on Tuesday. Chapter 15 is all about the Sacraments. We will learn that the 7 Sacraments are special signs of God's love. We will also discuss the Sacraments of Initiation, Sacraments of Healing, and Sacraments of Service to Others.
LA - We will continue with Module 5, Week 3 and our story, "Brothers at Bat". We will continue to work on pronouns in grammar. Our spelling words this week are a little tricky - contractions. Please be sure to take some extra time studying! We will have a spelling test on Thursday, January 19th and a reading test on Friday, January 20th. We will also continue working on our snowman designer persuasive writing.
Math - We will begin Chapter 8 this week. Chapter 8 continues our work with division with dividing by 6, 7, and 8. We will soon be wrapping up our work with division and moving on to fractions!
Science - We wil continue our work with ecosystems! This week we wil talk about forest ecosystems.

Week of January 8, 2023
Welcome back! The students did a great job transitioning back into the school routine...Tuesday was a little sleepy, but by Wednesday we were all ready to go!
A few reminders/looking ahead...
* 3B is officially out of tissues...please send some in if you are able.
* We are reaching the point of the school year where some of the children's school supplies, especially pencils, crayons/colored pencils, and glue sticks need replacing. Please send you child in with any new supplies they may need.

*Retake photos will be this Wednesday, January 11th. If your child is having their picture retaken, you should have received information.
*There will be a 12:00 Noon dismissal this Friday, January 13th.
*No school next Monday, January 16th, in observance of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day.
This Week in 3B...
Religion - This week we will cover Chapter 12. In chapter 12, we will learn that God calls all people to holiness. We will talk about some of the different ways we can live out our call to be holy. We will have a test on Chapter 12 on Friday. Also, we will join together with our school community to attend Mass on Monday, for the Feast of the Baptism of the Lord.
LA - We will wrap up Module 4, Week 3 with both a spelling test and a reading test on Tuesday. The reading test will include the story Two Bear Cubs as well as the Critical Vocab words and our grammar skill, pronouns. Then, we will begin working with Module 5. In Module 5, we will take the stories out of order- we will begin with "Brothers at Bat," which is the Module 5, Week 3 story.
Math - We will begin continue to work with division. We will divide by 4 and 5 this week as well as continuing to examine the relationship between multiplication and division. We will also use the strategy of drawing a picture to solve a problem.
Science - This week we will continue to talk about ecosystems. We will talk about ecosystems with few trees and also forest ecosystems. There will be a quiz near the end of this week- stay tuned for the date!

Week of January 2, 2023
Happy New Year! I hope everyone had a nice break filled with family, friends, fun, and relaxation! Thank you to our class parents for giving the children a wonderful class party and to all the parents who sent in treats for the goody bags. The students enjoyed all the Christmas fun and festivities we had during the last week of school before break!
A few reminders/looking ahead...
* There is no school Monday, January 2nd. Classes resume Tuesday, January 3rd. Please be sure to bring your library books when we return on Tuesday.
* 3B is officially out of tissues... Fall allergies as well as cold and flu season have hit us very hard. I received some tissues before the break (thank you to those who sent some in!), but we are still in need of tissues, as well as a few bottles of hand sanitizer. Please keep an eye out for a letter coming home this week.
* We are reaching the point of the school year where some of the children's school supplies, especially pencils, crayons/colored pencils, and glue sticks need replacing. Please send you child in with any new supplies they may need.
This Week in 3B...
Religion - We will take a little time to discuss and share about the beautiful celebration of Christmas that our Church has just observed, as well as the Epiphany, which is this Friday, January 6th. We will also work with our Good God Choices curriculum this week. This week we will talk about what it means to be a good friend, how Jesus was a good friend, and how we can learn from Jesus about being a good friend to others.
LA - We will start working with Module 4, Week 3. The story this week is "Two Bear Cubs". It is written in the form of a play, which the children always seem to enjoy! Our grammar skill this week is subject and object pronouns. The students will receive the new spelling and critical vocabulary words on Tuesday. Our reading test will be early next week.
Math - We will begin division this week! We will start by discussing division concepts and the relationship between multiplication and division. Then we will move into working with division facts. We will move a little more quickly through division than multiplication as we are building on the knowledge the students already have of the multiplication facts.
Science - We will be talking about ecosystems and the many different types of ecosystems - some on land, some in water, some with a few trees, some forest ecosystems, and more!
